Activity:

Feely bag for babies

Age range

6-12 months

This activity helps to develop

  • Sensory awareness
  • fine motor development

Materials

  • Pillowcase or cloth drawstring bag
  • Selection of "feely" objects. These can be everyday objects such as plastic measuring cups, unused dish scrubbers, a soft scarf, spoons, some "junk" mail or whatever is on hand, so long as items are non toxic and safe for little hands and mouths.

Instructions

Place items in the bag. Encourage your baby to feel inside the bag and explore what is inside, take objects out, touch them, look at them, listen to the objects and generally investigate. Items can be regularly changed around for variety. Babies love "real" objects and can find interesting uses for almost anything!

Tip! A number of feely bags can be placed in various rooms around the house so that your baby is entertained within your eyesight whilst you attend to chores such as doing the laundry, cleaning the house or changing nappies!

Warning: Supervision is required for this activity. Use non toxic and safe materials.
